The Indragiri’s Old Malay History
Old Malay people are among the traditional communities of Indragiri District, who have been living along nearby rivers for over 500 years.
They differ from Talang Mamak mainly with regards to their faith –Talang Mamak still follow animism, but the Malay are Moslem – and some of their traditional practices. The faith difference has brought impacts regarding food consumption. The Malay people have some restrictions on food an many of their day-to-day traditions are more influenced by Moslem/Arabic cultures.
